Laser Surgery and Your Pet
Accuvet Laser Machine
What is laser surgery?
Laser surgery is the use of a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser which generates a high beam of light that vaporizes water normally found in skin and soft tissues. This allows your veterinarian to cut through one layer of skin at a time ensuring a very accurate incision.

Why choose laser surgery?
By choosing laser surgery you are increasing your pets comfort and safety. The laser seals the nerve endings and lymphatic blood vessels leading to less bleeding, less sweling, and less pain. You are also reducing the risk of infection. As the laser cuts it sterilizes and removes diseased tissue killing harmful bacteria. Your pet will also have a quicker recovery time allowing them to return to their playful nature and less time at the hospital.

What surguries can be performed with a laser?
The laser can be employed in a wide variety of surgical procedures and on many species of animals (birds, reptiles, cats, dogs, etc.). The versatility and precision often exceed what may be performed by a traditional scalpel.
Spaying, neutering, tumor removals, and correction of skin abnormalities are common precedures performed with the use of a CO2 Laser. A common complication of routine surgeries such as spaying and neutering is infection. The use of a laser is one more method of minimizing this potentially serious complication. Hopefully the spay or neuter surgery will be the only surgery your pet will ever need; so let us help make it as comfortable and safe as it can possibly be!
